Meet Kevin Steamer, Mining Engineer at Techtonic.
Experienced in both open pit and underground, Kevin began his career in surface mining operations, working his way through drill and blast, production and development scheduling, and finally into a technical marketing and reporting role in the corporate space. After making a splash in the pits, Kevin moved head-first into underground mining, gaining first-hand exposure to a number of operational roles on the way to achieving his FCMM qualification, along with technical experience in drill and blast and production engineering.
Kevin tells us he is drawn to the dynamic nature of mining and the clear, efficient communication it demands — although does not always provide. Whether it is sitting down with operators to walk through a design or analysing data to optimise systems and processes, for Kevin (and for us) a plan means nothing if it is not communicated properly in both directions.
More recently Kevin has been using his open pit drill and blast skills to assist one of our clients on site at their lithium project. Closer to home, he has been spending time in our Perth CBD office helping to design our in-house training modules and business management systems, with his coding skills proving he can fit in just about anywhere.
Shortly he is off to his first underground secondment with a leading global gold miner, and we cannot wait to hear about the value he will add to that site.
